World Heritage Creative x Innovator Forum in Hangzhou, China (7-8 Nov 2024)

The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) was invited to the UNESCO Global Award Ceremony in the World Heritage Creative x Innovator Forum in receiving the Global Awards for World Heritage Education Innovative Cases. The event held in Hangzhou, China on 7-8 November 2024 was hosted by World Heritage Institute of Training and Research for the Asia and the Pacific Region under the auspices of UNESCO (WHITRAP) in partnership with Tongji University and the Hangzhou International Urbanology Research Center, together with the UN Office for South-South Cooperation, the Hangzhou Government, and the Zhejiang Provincial Government.

 

Dr. Eugene Wong, the Virtual Reality Centre, Centre of Teaching and Learning and Department of Supply Chain and Information Management, School of Decision Science and Professor Desmond Hui, Department of Art and Design, School of Humanities and Social Science were invited to receive the prestigious Star of Outstanding Award for the project ‘Tiger Balm Garden Metaverse Platform for Collaborative Learning’ at the UNESCO’s 2024 Global Awards for World Heritage Education Innovative Cases. At the awards ceremony in Hangzhou’s West Lake, Dima Al-Khatib, United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation Director and Mr. Xin Li, Deputy Secretary-General of WHITRAP presented HSUHK with the award, which highlights our commitment to creative world heritage education. 

 

During the forum, the HSUHK team shared the development of the virtual reality Metaverse for collaborative learning and culture presentation on the Tiger Balm Garden and illustrated how the use of innovative technologies to reconstruct the lost heritage for young generation and elderly in appreciating the Chinese culture and ethics brought by the Mr. Aw Boon Haw on the fantasy environment of Tiger Balm Garden. The teaching and learning case of HSUHK has been shared and promoted to the participants from worldwide. The project was exhibited in the forum.
