Organized by the Virtual Reality Centre (VRC), an AR Mascot Photo Taking Event was held at The Way during the graduation ceremony on 8 and 9 December 2022. More than 100 graduates, their friends and families took photos alongside virtual HSUHK mascot “Handa” and graduation themed photo frames using a redesigned AR Mascot mobile app developed by the VRC. The event aimed to provide graduates with augmented reality based graduation photo taking service, introduce our graduates to the latest AR technology and the integration of which to enhance experiences in daily life.
The enhancements of the AR mascot mobile app for iOS and Android focused on user experience and user interface design. In the latest version, more than one 3D mascot can be placed simultaneously and the mascots can be manipulated using finger gesture controls, for example, pinch to zoom and drag to move. With the support of the Centre for Teaching and Learning’s e-learning section, the app includes improved graphics such as the app icon, UI icons and virtual photo frames.
