The Virtual Reality Centre (VRC) is thrilled to announce the successful public launch of the NSWD 2024 app, an Augmented Reality (AR) mobile application developed in collaboration with the Student Affairs Office (SAO) specifically for the New Student Welcome Day (NSWD). The app, available for both iOS and Android devices, aims to provide an engaging and interactive experience for HSUHK freshmen while encouraging exploration of the campus during the NSWD on 20 and 22 August 2024.
Trending at number 4 on the Apple App Store’s Top Education Free Apps, the NSWD 2024 app has already attracted over 1044 downloads from both the Apple App Store and Google Play.
The NSWD 2024 AR Mobile App features AR Campus Hunt, where students can scan designated backdrops in six campus locations to collect stamps. By gathering at least four stamps, students can enter a lucky draw for a chance to win exciting prizes. To enhance the AR experience, the app also allows new students to take photos with six different 3D HSUHK mascots, 恒恒 (Handa).
Key features of the NSWD 2024 app include:
- AR Campus Hunt with Stamp Collection: Students can use their phone cameras to scan backdrops at various campus locations, collecting stamps along the way. A stamp collection map helps users track their progress.
- Take Photos with Virtual Handas: By collecting stamps, students unlock virtual 3D Handas that can be placed on the ground for photo opportunities.
- NSWD Information: The app provides the latest updates and information regarding NSWD events and academic sessions through direct access to the NSWD website.
- Push Notifications: Students will receive timely reminders about upcoming orientation events and academic sessions.
