With the launch of the Virtual Reality (VR) system in the Virtual Reality and Big Data Analytics Centre in their school this semester, students of Hang Seng Management College can now visualise air cargo terminal operations in a 3D interactive and immersive VR environment. For the first time, in a lecture of a module ‘Shipping and Transport Logistics’ on 24 September 2016 (Saturday), students were provided with VR equipment and facilities to visualise and understand the details of air cargo terminal operations, which include facilities layout, material handling systems, flow of unit load devices and airside operations.

The 3D immersive and interactive VR system is one of the first-ever VR systems to be applied in teaching and learning among the eleven higher education self-financing institutions. The VR system aims to enhance teaching, learning and research activities in our college. The Virtual Reality and Big Data Analytics Centre will be opened on 6 October 2016 and an opening ceremony will be held in Lecture Theater A401 to mark this remarkable milestone of the college. The system, and the content of air cargo terminal operations were jointly developed by Hang Seng Management College, Cathay Pacific Services Limited and The University of Hong Kong. The development of the VR system project is partly supported by the Quality Enhancement Support Scheme (QESS) of Education Bureau (Project No: 05/QESS/2015).  New scenes and contents will be developed with reference to our teaching and research needs.
